The SWPL side left it later than they would have liked to secure the full points against a resilient Hutchison Vale side.

Playing at Dundee United’s Gussie Park, Farmington returned Steph Milne to the starting line up in place of Rachael Small who was on international duty, with Gemma Collier replacing Fay Hughes.

The first half passed off as something of a non-event for Farmington, with shots on target at an absolute premium, thanks in no small part to the hard work of the visitors who set about their task with gusto. Just before half time the visitors were gifted an opportunity to take the lead – an opportunity they grasped with both hands. An unforced error from Farmington saw Hutchie work the ball in behind the home backline where Cat Smart gave her forename namesake Cat Fitzsimmons no chance.

With a refreshed sense of urgency Farmington took to the field for the second half, but had Fitzsimmons to thank once again as she denied Smart in the 53rd minute. This seemed to cajole the home side into action and in the 57th minute a surging run from Kelly Clark, who played a quick one two with Nicky Grant, resulted in a final ball that sailed not too wide of the intended target. Fay Hughes and Sam Milne were introduced to freshen the midfield area as Farmington continued to push. The breakthrough came with 15 minutes left on the clock when a Julia Scott free kick was forced over the line by Kelly Clark by way of the crossbar. Four minutes later another dangerous Scott delivery flashed across the face of goal with no takers. In the 79th minute Abbi Grant was introduced for Emma McCulley and the local youngster would make an immediate impact when, less than a minute later, she got on the end of a Scott cross to fire home what would be the winner.
