In a cracking game at Marketmuir on Wednesday the reserves took on their Celtic counterparts and a share of the points was just about right on the night. Ex-Farmington and Arbroath player Holly Napier put the Glasgow side ahead with a fine strike off a post only to galvanize the Forfar girls into their best spell off play, equalizing with an angled drive from Cheryl Rigden then taking the lead through Judy Young after fine lead up work by Milne and Heron. The Celts then came back with their own long range effort to bring parity at half-time. The second half was a nip and tuck with both teams going for victory, displaying skill and grit in equal measures but the winning strike was not to be. Cat Gallagher giving another mature performance in midfield, came close with flick inside the box and a cross from the ever dangerous McGinley was narrowly missed by Ash Burnett. At the other end Dana Soutar palmed away a dipping effort and Reid, Phillips, Doyle and Percy grafted magnificently to keep the dangerous 'tic forward line in check. Gaffer Russell Todd threw on youngsters Smith and Coyle to freshen up the attack but the ref. had seen enough and blew time on another great advert for the women's game in Scotland. |
