There was a cavalier feeling of excitement in the air when Forfar Farmington Blues, relying only on their individual and collective wits and determination to overcome a magellanesque awareness of the unknown obstacles ahead, eventually prevailed over a capable Scone Thistle side in this East U-13 League Cup tie.
. Scone started the better and created a couple of early chances which Sherie Stewart in goal coped with well. The Scone players displayed a good controlled touch when passing. Leila Strachan came close for Forfar after a direct pass from Caitlin Mitchell in midfield. Bethany Moir and Leah White had to work hard to keep Scone from breaching the Forfar defences. When that happened, Sherie Stewart showed a strong pair of hands to repel all advances. Carrie Hoggan and Lois Miller were equally committed when chasing the down the ball to pressurise the Scone defence which created some advantage. This type of pressure led to the breakthrough when Erin Thomson scored just before half time when Scone failed to clear their defence.
Caitlin Mitchell doubled the lead with a left shot low in the goal after a very good build up comprising several passes. Leila Strachan came close with a volley on the turn direct from a corner which had scone worried. Scone continued to press forward and this pressure resulted in a an own goal as Forfar failed to clear the ball. Lois Miller scored at the other end to extend the Forfar lead after another accurate corner from Caitlin Mitchell wasn’t cleared. Leila Strachan scored the last when she collected a Scone goal kick near the half way line and smashed a left foot shot back low to the corner of the Scone goal.
Forfar were pleased to overcome Scone in this game and embark on the next leg of their adventure. Long may it continue!
