On a cold & miserable day the Widlcats headed to Montrose knowing that they last beat their opponents only 3 weeks ago 4-0 in a league cup game. It was the Wildcats that dominated from the kick off with several early shots on target from Stark, Young & McVicar bringing out saves from the Montrose keeper. It took 14 minutes before the Wildcats finally opened the scoring when McEwan threaded a great pass to McVicar who calmly slotted it home, this was followed swiftly by a second goal by Young who was quickest to react when the ball came back off the post after a great shot by Stark. The Wildcats continued to push forward and not even a hailstorm was putting off the midfield of McEwan & McVicar making several stong runs into the Montrose box and only the heroics of the home defence prevented further goals from the pair. Heading towards half-time Young picked up the ball in midfield & made her own way through Montrose defence finishing with a powerful shot on target putting the Wildcats 3 up at half time. Six minutes into the second half Roberts made it number 4 with a great angled drive across the keeper. This was quickly followed by Youngs hat trick & the Wildcats fifth direct from a corner. Montrose were restricted to very few shots on target thanks to Logan & Balfour in defence, but, did bring out a save from Dryden at 40mins. McEwan made it 6-0 when she ran in on goal beating the Montrose defenders & coolly slotted the ball home. Only a minute later some great passing between McEwan & Young saw the Montrose bar rattled followed by Roberts hitting a shot into the side netting. On 50 mins the Montrose keeper passed straight to McEwan with a low goal kick & the grateful midfielder made her pay dearly making it 7-0. Then a sweet shot from Roberts made it 8-0. McEwan keeping the pressure on the Montrose keeper was denied her hat trick by the post on 56mins. Wildcats man of the match Young with only 2 mins remaining became saint then sinner when she scored from another corner making it 9-0, but, then nearly scored an own goal when a Montrose free kick was deflected off her but Dryden saved it to keep her second clean sheet in a row. |
