The club are delighted to announce the signing of American Goalkeeper Catherine Fitzsimmons to the SWPL team. The 23 year old arrive in Scotland this morning from Houston, Texas where she had been previously studying at Rice University.

A native of Ann Arbor in Michigan, the arrival of ‘Cat’ solves something of a conundrum that had hung over the Goalkeeping position since the early days of pre-season.

“Knew Fiona (McNicoll) would not play this season following her knee surgery” explains Assistant Coach Kev Candy. “But we only learned of Lucie (Cook)’s intention to step away just before pre-season started, so that certainly set a few alarm bells ringing”

“We were in discussions with Claire Johnstone, who was good enough to step into cover our first friendly match. But ultimately that process didn’t provide a solution, so we were delighted when Cat got in touch and from that point forward we moved things on as quickly as possible”

With Cat’s arrival not scheduled until this morning, the first two matches of the season saw youngster Dana Soutar step up to provide cover.

“To uproot to another country is always going to take some time, but it’s testament to her that she got her affairs in order as quickly as she did. In the meantime we were delighted with how Dana did covering the first two matches, and she can now step back down to our Reserve side where she will contest the shirt with Charlotte Tasker”.

Check back tomorrow for a full interview with Cat, including her thoughts on her move to Forfar Farmington.
