Farmington Blues U-13s made a winning start to their first ever competitive league campaign as they beat a competent Dundee United team in Dundee.
Dundee United had the better of early play first and it took about 10 minutes for them score as the ball wasn’t cleared by the visiting rearguard. Sally Paterson stepped up to put the home side ahead. Gradually Farmington adjusted to the tempo of the game and pulled level just before the break. Caitlin Mitchell teed up Leila Strachan who fired a strong accurate shot into the bottom corner of the United net.
As the second half developed the Blues continued to develop their game, with the link up play between defence and midfield particularly pleasing for the coaches. Strachan would go onto to secure her hat-trick giving Farmington a 3-1 victory in what was still an extremely close encounter.
This was an excellent team performance for the Blues, with the starting players supported by the contribution of all substitutes. Goalkeeper Sherie Stewart continued her good form with some key saves, whilst Leah White, Bethany Moir, Georgie Braithwaite and Carrie Hogan all played their part in attempting to keep the ever dangerous Paterson at bay. The teams efforts were well complimented by the midfield trio of Miller, Thomson and Mitchell, capping off what was a fine debut for the Blues and a pleasing performance for Blues Coaches Jane MacFarlane and Ed Thomson.
