The club started providing training opportunities for girls aged 9 and under in 2010, building on the massive growth of girls aged eleven years and under looking to make their first steps into the game.
With participation levels continuing to increase, grass roots provision was increased in 2011 with separate programmes running for U-9s and U-7s.
The focus of the grass roots programmes is to deliver well-structured sessions that develop the girls’ basic movement competencies and fundamental footballing skills, whilst ensuring a safe and of course fun environment is maintained at all times. Players within the programme benefit from coaching provided by qualified, disclosure checked coaches – many of whom play or have played at the highest level in the country. Our coaches look to share their own experiences of developing from grass roots level, and act as role models for players to aspire too. Players within the U-11 programme are placed in one of the club’s U-11 ‘teams’. These teams participate in the East Region friendly league, allowing girls to develop and expand upon the technical and social skills that are an integral part of being within a ‘team’. Again the fundamental aims of developing football skills in a safe and fun environment remain paramount, with the more competitive aspects of score lines, victories, number of goals scored etc., only being introduced at U-13 level.
Programme Dates / Times Tuesday Nights (April 2011 – November 2011) For more information on grass roots football at Forfar Farmington, and how to get your daughter involved please get in touch via the contact page. |
