Small Contribution gives Double Boost to Farmington |
|
The club’s SWPL side received a double boost today with the arrival of Scotland U-19 captain Rachael Small, and the return of long serving Farmington midfielder Avril Gourlay. |
A near permanent fixture in the National youth sides since 2007, Rachael has previously skippered the U-17s side on numerous occasions prior to being appointed U-19s captain for Shelley Kerr’s sides successful European Championship qualifying mini-group in Bulgaria last year.
Avril had been a mainstay of the Farmington first team since its conception many years ago. Her return after a 6 month hiatus represents a major boost for everyone at the club. The addition of Rachael and Avril to the Farmington ranks furthers the 1st team’s preparations ahead of the forthcoming SWPL season, with the vast majority of last season’s squad returning for the new campaign.
Speaking on the 1st teams preparations for the forthcoming season, Head Coach Mark Nisbet commented “I am delighted with how the squad is developing & the quality combined with experience that we have added should stand us in good stead for the upcoming season. The signing of Rachael shows the ambition of the club and the ability plus experience that Avril brings to the side speaks for itself. I am eagerly looking forward to working with both players to improve on last season’s league campaign"
