28/11/09 - Real Farmington U-13 5 Dundee United SC-A U-13 1 [East Girls U-13 League Cup Final] |
|
In what was their final ever seven a side game; Real won this final without ever hitting their top form. Such is their dominance and control that Dundee United threw everything they had at them but were still a little short.
The opening exchanges saw United a little ahead but gradually Real asserted their authority and the deadlock was broken mid way through the first half when Chloe Dunn collected a Murron White throw in and smashed the ball home from close range. The lead was doubled when Noble flighted in a dangerous near post corner and as the United keeper seemed certain to collect White stole in front of her and somehow managed to direct the ball into the net. United were desperately fighting back and Soutar in the Real goal did well to keep them at bay with a few good saves. The final tipped in Real’s favour when Donald blocked a United run and played in Noble with an inch perfect pass. Noble opened her body and curved a great shot from distance that had the United keeper beaten all ends up.
The second half commenced with United throwing every last effort into salvaging some pride, they were fighting hard for every ball, they were rewarded when a dangerous ball into the box was prodded home to make it 3-1. Any thoughts of a comeback were quickly thwarted by Real when Katy Dickson collected and with one of her trademark runs she found enough space to shoot. The United keeper did well to save but could only parry it out wide, the predator Chloe Dunn was waiting and she shot from the tightest angle to score and break the United resistance.
Real knew the job was done and Murron White nearly scored directly from a corner denied at the near post by the United keeper. The pressure was building again and when White hit a driven cross from a corner it was met by the advancing Dunn who was lying deep, Dunn stepped onto the cross and half volleyed past the helpless United defence to score a goal that would grace any cup final.
The final whistle brought noisy celebrations and the girls who have been such an impressive team over the last few years could take a well deserved bow, they have been a credit to themselves and to ladies football.
