Current chairman, Colin Brown had been involved in local boys football for many years when in 1980, he took a party of boys to Farmington, Connecticut USA. The following year, the Americans came to Scotland and the arrangement has continued ever since. The Americans brought girls with them and in 1984, Colin formed a girls club playing friendly matches. In 1990 a single girls team joined the league and with Charlie Lewis lending a hand they achieved many successes. Since 2002, the club has expanded to currently have nine teams playing at every level from under-elevens to ladies premier league. Four players have gone on to represent Scotland at full international level, with many more called up at the younger age-groups. 2005 turned out to be the club’s greatest year so far with the ladies winning promotion to the premier league and securing the Scottish League Cup for the first time. These achievements were acknowledged by the award of the Angus Team of the Year by the Angus Sports Council and further recognition came by way of the UEFA Award for services to grass-roots football. Looking back is all very well, but Forfar Farmington FC is constantly striving to improve facilities and develop players as far as they would like to go.
